FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you offer financing for pole barns?
At this time, we don’t directly offer in-house financing. However, customers may secure funding through local banks, credit unions, or agricultural lenders that are familiar with construction loans for pole barns, shops, and outbuildings. We’re happy to point you in the right direction and provide any plans, estimates, or documentation your lender may require to move the process along smoothly.
Do you need a permit for a pole barn in Utah or Idaho?
Yes. In most Utah and Idaho jurisdictions, structures over 200 sq ft require a building permit and inspections. However, both states provide agricultural exemptions in certain cases. In Utah, pole barns or other buildings used solely for agricultural purposes and not for human occupancy may be exempt if they meet state definitions and local land requirements (read more here). Idaho law also allows agricultural buildings on land actively used for farming or ranching to be exempt from building code permits, though many counties still require a site or zoning permit.
Even if the structure itself is exempt, separate permits may still be needed for plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work. The best way to confirm whether your project qualifies is to contact your city or county planning or building department, since local interpretations and requirements vary.
What is the lifespan of a pole barn?
A pole barn typically lasts 50 to 60 years but can exceed 100 with high quality work, materials, and maintenance.
Do you build barndominiums?
Yes, we are not just pole barn builders. We build just about any type of post frame building including barndominiums with whatever custom interior you'd like.
What is the difference between post frame construction and stick built?
Post frame construction uses large posts spaced far apart as the main structural support, while stick-built construction uses closely spaced studs on a continuous foundation.

WHAT ARE POLE BARNS?
Pole barns, also known as pole buildings or post-frame buildings, are structures that use a unique construction method: vertical posts are set in the ground to support the roof and walls. This method is known as post frame construction.
Pole barns are commonly used in Utah and the west (and throughout the US for that matter…) for agricultural and farm use, including horse barns, horse arenas, storage, workshops, garages, shop, and even residential spaces such as barndominiums or a house.
Pole barns are a very versatile and customizable platform for homeowners and businesses no matter what your needs are.
HOW MUCH DO POLE BARNS COST?
Pole barns in Utah and Idaho can cost anywhere from a few thousand to $100,000 or more depending on dimensions, interior, materials, whether you want a foundation or any number of other details.
You will get transparent pricing and high quality results when working with us. You will pay either a flat project fee or based on the size and complexity of your pole barn, with payment schedules often set at key project milestones. A general contractor will oversee the entire pole barn project, ensuring quality craftsmanship and managing all construction details for a hassle free experience.
